Guttermind
You wanted to see, and now you will know.
Guttermind is one person in Orlando, Florida, and that person goes by Mr. Gutter.
He writes it, plays it, produces it, engineers it, mixes it, and masters it. There is no lineup, no rotating cast of session musicians, no co-writer credit hiding in the liner notes. Whatever ends up on a Guttermind record is what one person decided to put there, and there was nobody in the room to talk him out of it.
The sound is industrial metal in drop B: low end tuned down until it stops being pitch and starts being pressure, guitars that live somewhere between riff and abrasion, programming used as an instrument rather than as decoration. But the machinery isn't the point. The point is what's being said through it.
Industrial metal usually runs cold. The genre is built on masks, distance, dehumanization, the voice processed until it stops sounding like anybody in particular. Guttermind uses the same tools and does the opposite with them. These are emotionally direct songs about failure, dependency, insomnia, recrimination, and the specific ugliness of watching yourself do something you already know is a mistake. The delivery is heavy. The writing is not hiding.
The first Guttermind release, Shedding Skin, came out in 2024.
Venomous Catharsis is the second album, and it is not assembled like a playlist. It's built as a performance: it opens with "An Invitation To The Show," splits at the midpoint with an instrumental entr'acte, ends with "The Curtain Falls," and then keeps going for one more track after the curtain is down. The theatrical frame isn't a gimmick laid over the songs. It's the argument the record is making about the difference between what a person performs and what's actually happening to them.
Two tracks came out ahead of the album on July 27, 2026. "Venomous Catharsis," the title track, is the most melodic thing on the record and the least reassuring. "Recompense" is industrial metal in its purest form here, built around two spoken samples lifted from a 1950 Coronet instructional film called Are You Ready for Marriage?, a piece of mid-century educational optimism that had no idea what it was going to be used for seventy-six years later.
Everything was recorded at home. Not in the apologetic sense — in the sense that the room, the gear, and the hands all belong to the same person, and the record sounds like what happens when nobody has to approve anything.
All music and lyrics by Mr. Gutter, credited as Ross Epstein. Guttermind is based in Orlando, Florida.
